Writing Collaboratively Using Titanpad

TitanPad.com

What bothers you about the first day of school? What will you keep so far from the experience in this classroom this week? Just Write.....

Th first day of the new school year I feel both excitement and nervousness. I want to be someone they can talk to, but I know I have to be firm to set the class tempo. It is hard to get the right medium being an Explortory teacher, not academic; students think they can goof off and play. I enjoy the change of classes every quarter.

What bothers me about the first day of school is anticipating the new year. The anxiety of the unknown. How will we get this done? What do we need to do to support teachers? On the other hand, our profession gives us the unique opportunity to have a fresh start each year.

I hope everyone is having fun.

The first day of school is always a mixture of excitement mixed with anxiety. I'm so eager to get things going, to share my love of learning, set the expectations and get the students excited about what they're going to accomplish. With that said, at the alternative high school, I really have no idea who will be in my classes or for how long.
From this class I will take most of the collaborative activities we have been shown. I think they will be a valuable tool for informal assessments. I believe the blog will be another way to get students to respond; I think writing digitally will motivate some of them the way paper and pencil cannot.

What bothers me about the first day of school is the lack of mental preparation by some students. Many have not picked up a book or writen a single letter throughout their long summer brake.

I always have alot of anxiety the first day of school. My biggest issue is that scheduling will not be complete. The Academy for Technology and Academics is an optional school to attend, so we always have a lot of changes the first two weeks of class. It is very frustrating not knowing who your students are going to be/what classes you'll be teaching until the very last minute. With all of the budget cuts, we lost four academic teachers three weeks into the school year last year, and the entire schedule for the school had to be redone. I was given a brand new class the third week of school that I had to prepare for, and two of my old classes were taken away. I've tried logging into PowerTeacher to see if anything has been posted yet, but I guess teachers don't have access to it at this point. On the other hand, I am looking forward to going back and get right back in the swing of things.

I am always nervous the first day of school. I want to be able to share my expectations and love of learning with my students. I want to set a good example for them and get them excited about learning. I am not really bothered about the first day, just anxious that I communicate effectively with my students. I plan on using several things from this class during the first week of school. I want to share a blog with the students and get them to really respond. I plan on using videos and music to add some zing into my lessons. I was nervous a

The first day that we as teachers report back to school without students is exciting, but also bothersome to me. I am always anxious to get there and set my room up so that I feel prepared for the year. However, the district always has staff developments for us and our school too. Before you know it, open house is there and you haven't had the time to prepare your room! I always go out before we are supposed to be there and set up on "my time". I feel that I am almost cheating my family out of their summer time.

I'm always nervous about the first day of school. The night before I can't sleep. My biggest worry is whether all the little ones know how they are supposed to get home that first day. We often have cryers on the first day and that's unsettling. By then end of the day I'm exhausted. I stay at school until all the buses have returned and listen to hear if my name is called to tell me a student has been returned to school. Once I'm safely through that I go home and collapse because I didn't sleep the night before and I'm emotionally drained. Whew!!

The first day of school is always a big blur to me. Everything usually seems so chaotic. Because I don't get to work with my students on the first day, I usally find myself helping out wherever I can. That means taking nervous, lost children to their homeroom class, directing parents to specific classrooms, assisting with late registrants, and helping classroom teachers in different ways . Exhausted by the end of the day, I always wind up taking a nap with my personal children when I get home. I plan to use just about everything I've learned in this class in one way or another. The Blog that I set up will be my class blog. The students will be taught how to post and will be responsible for keeping our blog page going. I've learned a lot in this class and am feeling like I have a bit more techno savvy.

I hope to be proficient enough to start the year with technology. I am sure the students will be my best resource.

I always have restless nights before school begins. Participating in this class has been a good transition from summer relaxation back into "the groove!" I want to have the Young Adult Book Award nominee books featured in short podcasts or vodcasts. If I write the scripts, student actors can produc the "casts." I need to decide if those will be posted on our SharpSchool website or linked to SharksRead Edublog. I will approach our drama teacher to get the talent. It is challenging for me to get the information out to our students for them to even know this information is available. I will be planning with teachers for research strategies. I want to see if the RSS feeds available in EBSCOhost with feed into GoogleReader. If so, that would be a wonderful path to track research, old & new.

I am always so excited about the first day of school. The only thing that really scares me is not being able to go over everything that I want to discuss with the students, but I know that I will have another day. This Digital Writing class has totally amazed me. I was so nervous about learning new technology, but after playing around with it, I have been able to learn new ways to incorporate lesson plans and ideas. I am anxious to begin this with my students. I know that they are going to love it! We just do not have enough computers for everyone! :(

The first day is always so nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. I always have so many new ideas that I want to try and then the pace of the year gets the best of me and I fall into familiar patterns. Maybe 'my eyes are bigger than my stomach' so to speak and I need to go with just one new thing at a time!
Then there is the whole supplies issue on the first day. 22 tissues, 22 packs of markers, 22 glue sticks. Where do I put it all. Do we share or every use their own. I change my mind every single year because I have never found THE way to do it. Such a tiny thing, but it takes up so much of the first day!
Then there is the technology. My biggest question right now is 'How do I get computers into my students' hands?' We have 4 in my classroom. I need more!!!!

I love the positive energy that comes from the first day of school. I wish I could bottle it and spray it around the building on those long could days in January and Febuary.

I generally like the first few days of school, but the frustrating things are the constant schedule changes for students and the interuptions when students go for textbooks or get called out for various reasons. I feel like it's hard to get a good start and I have to put off things I would rather do in that first day or two.

The first day I feel like it is the very first time again! What a wonderful feeling! I have so much I want to try thanks to this class. It is great to have so many ideas to use because we always feel we are at a loss for what other ways we can use to get the ideas accross yet still hold the interest of the students.

I am not looking forward to the anxiety that comes with the first day of school.

I always have some anxiety on the first day of school. I still have some anxiety over the vast amount of web sites, strategies, and very cool ways to get students involved using technology. I am exited about learning these tools and using them throughout the years to come. This class has been and continues to be a great learning experience for me.

                    Thursday, July 15, 2010

Welcome to Writing in the Digital Classroom

                    Greetings Everyone!

I look forward to July 26 to meet each of you.  Writing in the Digital Classroom will be an immersion into learning, reading, and writing using the new world literacies. Even though we will be learning and using new digital tools, but there is a high expectation for us to be readers, writers, and thinkers throughout the course. The big project throughout the course is “living a life of an educational blogger.” For most of you this will be a new experience of sharing your writing and thinking using social media and publishing to the web.  Our supportive community will make this much easier.  Each day during the four-day immersion (July 26-29) we will write everyday and we will be using our writing to create digital stories, podcasts, and print media.

I will be using this website at http://wdcfall2010.blogspot.com/ to post classroom messages, agenda’s, and assignments. Please be in the habit of checking this website for messages and important announcements through out the course.  If you should have a question, leave a comment under the post or email me at wcgaskins.59@gmail.com.  I am usually a click away and will try to get back with you within 24 hours.

For July 26-29, you will need access to email.  You may use your district email or any other preferred email account as long as you have web access to that email.  You will be registering for new accounts with different web tools that are free and you will be sent confirmation email. You must be able to access that email.  Your HCSD email system might suffice your needs or I recommend a gmail account. It is free and easy to use.

We will begin at 9 AM, break for lunch around 11:45- 1:00 P.M., and finish shortly before 4 P.M. Please read the attendance policy in the syllabus and how it is related to your final grade.  Please read the syllabus carefully and be ready to address questions.

                    ·      flash drive
